Chapter Six: The Club.

Robert spent the next ten minutes beign fitted for Civilian clothes after Ch'Me finished his introduction, as he did not have anything except for his dress outfit, two or three work jumpers, and two flightsuits. The clothing fit him pretty well all things considered, and the trousers were actually from his dress uniform. He idly noted that almost everything here was cotton cloth, which was good. Ch'Mee and Thomas pitched in with getting the rest of the chairs out during that time. The four had finished up as people started to arrive. Thomas and Ch'Mee insisted that Robert be near the door as people walked in. As people walked in, The greeted Thomas and Ch'Mee, and then introduced themselves to Robert. In all, there was a total of about 20 people here. Ted walked up to the group and said that everyone was here. Ch'Mee agreed, and went over to the head table. Ted led Robert to the head table as well. Robert whispered to Ted as they walked. "This looks more like 20 percent." Ted nodded. "Yes, this ship actually has the highest concentration in the service, hence this rather large room." They had reached the head table, and Ted had Robert take a seat. He then turned to address everyone. "Good afternoon, and welcome to the meeting. FIrst, we'd like to introduce you to the newest member here. Robert, Can you stand up please?" Robert sheepishly stood up. "Hi", he said nervously. Ted smiled. Robert is a were-bear, and to my knowledge the only one in the club." He looked at Ch'Mee. "Is that right?" Ch'mee shook his head. "No, there's another bear on the K5, but he only has the standard three forms." Thinking that the introduction was done, Robert went to sit down. Ted shook his head. "Nope. The tradition is that you need to show us all your forms. Take your time, and don't be nervous. Everyone had to do this when they joined." Robert nodded. "Well, uh, First I'll start with hybrid and the progress downward." He triggered the shift to hybrid form, and oted that his pants has absorbed almost immediately into his body. This caused him to blush. He stammered after he finished the shift, "Whoops. Guess that's what I get for picking pants that fit just right." This got a small chuckle from the audience. "Next will be Bear and Dire Bear, in that order. I hope. I'm still a little new at this." Taking a deep breath, he triggered the second shift to full form. When he reached full form form, he paused and said in Primal, "This is my bear form. I do not know if I can speak in Primal, as my mind is a lot more beastial in that form then any other." Then he triggered the shift to Dire form. As he got there, the Beast in his mind saw the room full of tigereans, spellcasters, and other were creatures. Before the beast could decide just what to do (It was scared at all the others in the room, particulary the sole tantric mage at the third table) Robert triggered the shift back to normal. As he reached his human self, he cleared his throat and asked if anyone had any questions. No one did, so he sat down. Thomas took charge of the meeting, and quickly the business of the club was finished. The the social part of the club began, and to Robert's dismay, the booze started flowing as well. Somehow he managed to be talked into haveing two stiens worth of honey mead, at which his recollection of the rest of the evening became quite fuzzy.

Robert woke up the next morning with a headache that could probably take on a destroyer and win. What was even stranger was that he was in Bear form. Make made the entire thing completely odd and what snapped him to full, painful wakefullness, was the naked female form of Captain Shannon Ortiz cuddling with him. She must have sensed that he had woken up, because she looked directly into his eyes with hers, and smiled. ::Don't worry, nothing happened:: he heard a female voice in his head. Puzzled, he looked at her. ::Yes, I'm telepathic. I am fortunate in that I can turn it on and off at will. I think I need to explain to you what happened last night, because you can't seem to recall any of it. Honey mead and bears... Sheesh!:: She flung the covers off them, and he got a brief look at the room he was in before her backside came into view and he looked down. She responded by laughing. ::No need to be modest here, You are in my room. By a quirk of fate I somehow got this room all to myself, so it's just you and me. But you want me out of your head, I think.:: Robert grunted "Yes, answers would be nice."

Her voice went from mental to audible. "I take it that was Yes? I can't understand Primal, unfortunately. I was not terribly pleased with what you did to one of my pride and joys, I understand at least that there was nothing that you could do to save it. As for last night, it would be faster if I showed you via a mind link." She returned to the bunk wearing an oversized t-shirt, and asked him to return to human form, which he did. "To do this, I need to you sit up, and I need to sit in your lap or behind you, your choice." Robert was already halfway into a state of mortification by now. "Whatever works for you. I feel embarressed enough as it is, though." She shrugged. "No need to feel embarressed. Now, if you could help me into your lap, I'll see if I can unclog the foggy innards of your mind for you." WIth his help she sat in his lap. Robert mentally noted that the T-shirt was *all* that she was wearing and that when she was sitting, it rode up on her. He shook his head to clear such thoughts out. "Charming, someone at least *tries* to be a gentleman around me. Most guys would have gotten a kick in the nuts for that already. At least you are making an effort. Now hold still and close your eyes, or this will make that hangover seem like a mild twinge." She put her hands on his head and suddenly robert's memory was kickstarted in fast forward, but from her perspective.

It showed the meeting, the afterwards, and the trip down to her cabin, and the two of them just talking afterwards. Eventually Robert fell sleep, and at some point shifted into Bear form. At some point after that, she went to bed and curled up next to him. The next thing Robert knew was that she had taken her hands off his head. "OK, open your eyes. Now you know what I know, and shortly you'll know what you know again. You may have noticed that I drank nothing but soda last night. Booze and telepathy just *do not* mix." She was smiling at this. Robert's memory finally came awake and slammed into his head like an anvil, causing his eyes to slam shut again. Fortunatly, the pain was brief and cleared up along with the hangover. He opened his eyes again. "Thanks, I think." He gently hugged her. "You can be rougher then that, ya know. I'm not made of crystal." Her tone was humorous. "Silly girl. I don't want to hurt you unintentionally. My body was re-built for a 2.5 G world, and I'm not sure how tight 'normal' is anymore." She giggled. "Just start squeezing. I'll tell you when to stop, you big oaf." This went on for a few more minutes, and they finally seperated. Robert found that he was wearing the civilian outfit, and quickly changed the shirt for the dress uniform shirt that he had been wearing the day before. "I probably need to get back to my bunk and review my schedule for the day. Thank you for not taking advantage of me while I was drunk." She nodded. "No problem. Sorry about freaking you out this morning. As far as the booze, It was a practical joke and an initation at the same time. You'll find that we are practical jokers in the worst possible way." Robert nodded and stood up.

"Thank you ma'am. I'll see you la-" He never saw the hand that slammed into his jaw and shoved him into the wall. It was all he could do to keep upright. "Rule Number one when you are with me: Never, and I mean NEVER, call me Ma'am." The anger in voice suddenly dropped. "Sorry about that. It's attached to a very bad memory I have, and I react almost on instinct to it. Usually I have a pretty good lid on it, but there was something with you that caught me off guard. You are ok, right?" Robert nodded. After a minute he got his jaw working right again. "I'll try to keep that rule in mind, Captain. No offense was intended by it, but the lesson has been learned. Good day." Without a further thought he went to the door and went out. ::Come by my office in Drydock later today. I need to talk to you about your replacment ship.:: Fortunately, the corridor was not only empty, but her room was next to the lift. He found that he was on the floor directly below his, and was back in familer territory in 30 seconds. Robert arrived at his assigned bunk just in time to catch his bunkmate, Capt. Andrew Hicks, as he woke up. "Morning 'bert. You must have had a fun night last night. Mark's still on your face." Robert nodded. "Yep. Don't ask me to describe it, 'cause I can't remember." Andrew laughed. "That's what I like to hear!" Andrew left for the head, while Robert was shaking his head. This gave him enough time to change into one of the work jumpers he had in his locker. Thank whoever that my tail is not visible in this! he thought. Zipping the jumper closed, he left for the mess to get some food. It was going to be a long day.
